Gente que Soma Global Seminar (Stanford University, USA).In 2025, Instituto Reúna accelerated systemic policy reform for the Middle School education. Partnering with the Ministry of Education (MEC), the institute supported the national development and implementation of this agenda, highlighting the production of benchmark materials and the design of a national monitoring system. These resources are now actively steering state and municipal education districts toward collaborative governance models. Implementation accelerated throughout the year in major urban education networks, including the municipal education departments of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In direct coordination with MEC, Instituto Reúna also authored implementation handbooks for schools.
Mathematics has established itself as a core priority for Reúna, serving as a structural pillar for equitable learning. The organization’s policy work successfully integrated early math competencies into national literacy targets, guided discussions surrounding the National Education Plan (PNE), and shaped newly designed federal programs aligned with the National Commitment to Literate Children (Compromisso Nacional Criança Alfabetizada).
Additionally, national and international meetings catalyzed the launch of the Gente que Soma movement, mobilizing public leaders, experts, and civil society organizations to elevate the national dialogue on Mathematics education across Brazil.
São Paulo (São Paulo state)
In 2025, the São Paulo Municipal education network unveiled the Learning and Teaching in Adolescence framework, inspired by federal Ministry of Education (MEC) guidelines. The model is built on the premise that educating adolescents requires a school environment attuned to students’ lived experiences, personal expression, and local communities.
Serving as the technical partner for the project, Instituto Reúna supported the Municipal Department of Education in facilitating leadership training workshops and coordinating the working group leading the initiative. This process culminated in the creation of a document outlining guidelines and recommendations to steer the work of teachers and school administrators, with implementation scheduled to begin in 2026.
