Data Map: Middle School Education

In October 2025, Instituto DACOR launched the Data Map: Middle School Education, an open-access platform that compiles key indicators on the educational trajectories of Afro-Brazilian students across Brazil. Supported by the Lemann Foundation, the initiative applies Dynamic Social Cartography to help public school networks, education leaders, and researchers design more equitable policies.

The data reveals that Afro-Brazilian students account for 68.8% of all enrollments in the Middle School, yet stark disparities persist: learning gaps reach up to 30 percentage points compared to White students; only 3 in 10 Afro-Brazilian students achieve adequate learning in 9th-grade Mathematics; and these students are 2.1 times more prone to age-grade mismatch.
