Redes

The REDES Program (Regionalization, Development, and Health), an initiative of the Institute for Health Policy Studies (IEPS), is based on the understanding that the regionalization of Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS), provided for by law for decades, depends on qualified technical and political leadership to become a reality. In 2025, the initiative worked in Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Paulo, supporting policy development and the strengthening of intergovernmental governance.

The key highlight of the year was the REDES Training Journey for municipal health secretaries in Mato Grosso do Sul, designed as a component of the state’s regionalization strategy. The training pathway combined technical content, reflection on management, and practical tools to support decision-making in local territories.

External recognition further underscores the strength of this model. In 2023, REDES was awarded the Walter Leser Medal, one of Brazil’s highest honors in public health.
